Almost 50 pairs of storks

White storks reach a size of about one meter and have a wing span of about two meters. With their white-black plumage and red, long beak, white storks are easy to recognize.

Every year about 50 pairs of storks breed on the roof tops of Affenberg Salem. Often visitors are greeted with loud bill-clattering, as soon as they reach the entrance. However, this was not always the case. At the end of the 70s, only 15 pairs of storks were left in Baden-Wuerttemberg.

In 1978, the Affenberg Salem stork station was founded and white storks were reintroduced into the region. Since then, the stork population in Baden-Wuerttemberg has risen to more than 1500 breeding pairs.

During moderated stork feedings, you will learn more exciting facts about these elegant animals.
